Just a follow up: We have not really generated any money yet from our ads so we have not been able to make any donations yet. We will be considering some local shelters once we get up and running. If anyone is looking to learn do it yourself dog grooming please check out our dog grooming book reviews first!

Don,

You make a very good point. We chose the ASPCA because it was more widely recognizable. You also make a good point because we are actually located in Milford CT. I would be very interested in speaking with you to explore other possibilities. I will E Mail you this week to get some more information on some smaller shelters.

While we started this site for two main reasons; to provide valuable information to fellow dog owners and to generate a small profit with something we enjoy there is a bigger picture that has evolved. The site is still in its "puppy" phase but we have high hopes for it.

I think it would be awesome to help as many organizations as possible. I promise to keep all posted as to the progress of this.

Instead of donating to the New York City ASPCA (the only ASPCA and no national affiliation with any SPCAs) please consider donating to a smaller shelter or rescue organization in Connecticut or elsewhere that struggles with operating costs. Many of these smaller shelters save just as many animals yet face the great challenge of financial hardship that the ASPCA is not burdened with. The ASPCA reported a revenue of $128 million in 2008 alone, and the executives receive HUGE six-figure salaries (some are more than $500,000 per year) despite technically being a non-profit organization. If we continue to donate to those organizations that already have so much money, who will fund the little guys working so hard to accomplish the same mission as the ASPCA? Thank you for considering keeping your donations in your local community and helping those who are less fortunate.
